Ani Difranco
Angela Maria Ani DiFranco is an American-Canadian songwriter and singer. She has released over 20 albums. The music of DiFranco has been described as folk and alternative rock however it also has influences from hip hop, punk and jazz. Ani DiFranco is widely recognized as an icon of women's rights, and Grammy-winning performer, is regarded as to be the first pioneer in DIY music. It was one of the first artists to launch the label she created in 1990. DiFranco was born in Buffalo New York on September 23rd 1970. She is the daughter Elizabeth (Ross) and Dante Americo DiFranco whom she had made acquaintance while studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her father was of Italian descent, and her mother hails from Montreal. Ani diFranco wrote and sang the track 32 Flavors. The song is featured on her 6th studio album Not a Pretty Girl released in 1995. The song appeared on the soundtrack to the Canadian romantic comedy Better Than Chocolate, released in 1999. DiFranco apologized to the organizers of a workshop held in Louisiana at an old plantation for slaves.
